The Commission's Goals are the same as those of the Texas America250 Commission.
  • Enhance civic knowledge of the founding principles of the county and the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
  • Encourage Texans to unite in commemorating the Semiquincentennial.
  • Promote scholarships and research that illuminates the history of the American West and Texas' role in the formation of the nation.
  • Recognize the service and sacrifices of Veterans and their families who have protected our liberties and independence for future generations.
  • Collect, track, and share information about Texas events and activities planned for the 250th Anniversary of the United States and assess and report to the State on their impact.

The Commission has been created for the purpose of implementing Harrison County Texas' ability to fully participate in celebrating America's 250th Birthday. The following legislative acts provide the guidance for how our organization has been chartered to achieve this purpose.
  • The U.S. Congress passed the United States Semiquincentennial Act in 2016 to plan the celebration for the 250th Anniversary of the United States. The Act established a Commission which has been branded as America250.
  • The 87th Texas Legislature established the Texas America250 Commission in 2021 for the State of Texas to promote America250 for the State of Texas.
  • The Harrison County Commissioners Court passed a resolution in October 2023 creating the Harrison County Texas America250 Commission to plan for and provide opportunities for all citizens  of Harrison County to participate in America 250 celebrations.

Harrison County Texas America 250 is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your charitable donations help us fund working with the America250 and Texas America250 organizations to promote officially recognized programs, projects, and events that inspire future leaders in celebrating and commemorating all Texans' contributions to the formation of these United States as we know them today.
