For Texplorers
Discussion and Planning Groups
We have added planning and discussion groups for our members. Texplorers can create and manage their own Groups that help them be better connected throughout all evolutions in the programs and events for commemorating and celebrating America250.
American Independence
The signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 is the moment that the United States of America was born. The American Revolution was a monumental conflict that lasted from 1775 to 1783, wherein the thirteen American colonies fought against British rule to gain their independence.

The seeds of revolution were sown through escalating tensions over issues such as taxation without representation, economic policies, and the desire for self-governance. Texplorers can find many details on the American Revolution, including key events such as the Boston Tea Party and the battles of Lexington and Concord that ignited open warfare, leading to the formation of the Continental Army under the leadership of General George Washington.
Texas' Role in American Independence
The American Revolution immediately drew international support outside of the colonies. Texans played an important role, as did the often underappreciated roles of French and Spanish Influence in the Patriots' quest for independence.

From our early beginnings, the people of Texas have greatly contributed to shaping who we have become as Americans. The Texas State Historical Association publishes several Handbooks that document this history. You can find additional resources documenting the history of Texas and its communities published at the Heritage Resource Center at Stephen F. Austin University The Texas Historical Commission also has many Texas Historical Markers located throughout Texas commemorating the people, places and events that are our history.
America250 Opportunities For Students & Educators
Texas educators and students can be actively involved with America250 and Texas America250. The next America Field Trip has just begun! It will provide students with an opportunity to participate in a scholastic contest that encourages them to reflect on what America means to them. In last year's America Field Trip Contest ,thousands of students from across the country submitted inspiring entries. There were 150 students selected as awardees, hailing from 44 states and territories.
America250 Opportunities For Everyone
Everyone in Texas can be actively involved with America250. America Gives: Reinvigorating a Year-Round Culture of Service provides Americans with many ways and opportunities to be involved. America Gives is the largest-ever National Service Initiative in American History.
